Members of an Italian family of thieves who took more than £1.2m valued of goods, among them from ex- Newcastle United striker Isak, have been mandated to return only £1 per person.

Siblings Valentino Nikolov and Giacomo Nikolov, their female sibling Jela Jovanovic and her son Charlie Jovanovic journeyed to the north-east of England to burgle three houses in April 2024.

The group of four were imprisoned for between six and 10 years in 2025.

At a proceeds of crime hearing at the court, Jela Jovanovic and the brothers Nikolov were instructed to repay £1 each while Charlie Jovanovic must hand over £1,135.

Particulars of the Burglaries

The court previously heard the group arrived by ferry in the UK on March 27, 2024 and used a RV as their "base of operations", which they parked at Scotch Corner and Durham rest stops while utilizing another car to search for properties and execute thefts.

On 31 March they stole over £1m of items such as designer clothing, purses, jewellery and a CBE medal from a residence on a street in Jesmond, while the owners were on holiday.

The next evening, the gang broke into a house on a private road in Whitburn, South Tyneside, and took designer handbags, valuables and shoes worth over £100,000.

After scouting out the football club's training ground for two days, they then struck at the residence of Sweden player Mr Isak in Darras Hall, Ponteland on April 4, stealing £10,000 in cash, sixty-eight thousand pounds worth of jewellery and the player's one hundred twenty thousand pound Audi RS6.

The group, who were described by the prosecution as experienced itinerant burglars, used hand coverings and masks, turned their phones on silent as they approached their objectives and strapped a license plate, which had been stolen from a auto shop in Chester-le-Street, on to their car with rubber straps.

They were apprehended in the Birmingham area on 13 April.

Legal Proceedings and Rulings

Valentino Nikolov had pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to burglary but was found guilty by the court, while his family members had all entered admissions to the identical accusation.

At the criminal gains session, prosecutor Daniel Cordey said each of the burglars had profited from their crimes to the amount of £1,266,285.93, which was based on what the victims said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the only one deemed to have any money that could be "realised", specifically over a thousand pounds which had already been seized by police, the court heard, with two weeks to be served in jail if he failed to pay.

The other three had no assets or assets so were directed to pay a nominal fee of £1 per person, with seven days in prison the consequence if the sum was not submitted.

The judge Spragg said if they were discovered with assets in the future, "such as operating Italy in a fast car or owning a property", the prosecution could initiate further action to "recover the amount due".
