One two-month voyage through the Australian Coast was terminated in the wake of the death of an elderly lady who was stranded by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on the remote island with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the party for a pause. The ship departed without her and came back later that day after the ship staff discovered the woman was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt discovered her person the following day.

Authorities are investigating the incident, in coordination with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator said that guests and personnel on the ship were told that the continuation of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that passengers would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the individuals via private aircraft".

Authorities also issued an latest communication, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Captain" preventing any new passengers from boarding the liner.

The official said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its arrival.
