Man That Grabbed Ariana Grande on the occasion of Red Carpet Event Barred from Singapore
A man from Australia that leaped over a barricade and reached for Hollywood star Ariana Grande has been sent away and prohibited from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, twenty-six, was given a sentence to over a week in jail for being a public nuisance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority stated to news outlets.
The man shoved past photographers and approached aggressively the actress and singer, who was attending the regional launch for the musical adaptation on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
Wen has a history of causing disturbances at events and celebrity events, including jumping on stage at a Katy Perry performance in Sydney in this summer.
The event caused anger in Singapore, with numerous people claiming he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The celebrity has spoken of suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist bombing at her performance in the UK city in spring of 2017 resulted in the deaths of 22 individuals and injured hundreds.
During Wen's trial, the judge was informed he had made efforts to breach on the film's premiere on two occasions, according to regional reports.
He then made a follow-up try to cross the barriers. Event security stopped him and restrained him.
He then uploaded videos expressing gratitude to the star for permitting his access and said he was "at liberty."
Authorities detained him the next day and accused him with disorderly conduct, to which he confessed.
The Presiding Judge the judicial official was referenced by Channel News Asia as remarking that he was looking for publicity, commenting that he was mistaken to assume he would not suffer any consequences.
Grande has not commented on the incident.
The co-star spoke about the incident to NBC, remarking that she "only aimed to verify my friend was safe."
"I'm sure he didn't mean us danger, but you never know with these incidents, and I wanted to make sure that she was fine. That was my first instinct," she commented.
