Supporters Urge Custody of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the actress are calling for that a person who jumped a barrier and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good launch be detained or deported from Singapore.
A viral footage shows the individual from Australia shoving aside photographers and lunging at Grande while the performers made its way down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being detained", though official papers revealed that he was scheduled to attend court on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was charged.
Record of Incidents
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes clips of him disturbing other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the pop singer's Sydney show in recently and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers event in the city last year.
"Steps should be implemented taken against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," wrote an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" a different Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over the Star's Well-being
Several followers accused Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from PTSD after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her May 2017 performance in Manchester, killing 22 people and harming many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said a further response on Instagram.
A number of supporters also faulted guards at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for social media platforms to block Mr Wen's content.
Response and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande seemed surprised when she was grabbed by the intruder. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the situation, and the premiere activities carried on uninterrupted.
Numerous of supporters had gathered in a mass of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore mall, including a number who had queued for as long as a significant duration before it began.
The movie, to be launched on November 21, is the sequel of a dual version of the acclaimed theatrical production Wicked, which focuses on the unexpected friendship between two contrasting witches.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the good witch Glinda, was decked out in a light pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who acts as the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were joined by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of the previous year in the UK, and scored a dozen Oscar nominations, securing a pair for best costume and artistic direction.
