The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Discloses He Has a Plan for How Pluribus Might Finish... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

As the debut season of the popular series wrapping up—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team opened up about the fan response and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Fan Response

Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and fan theories regarding Pluribus. The creator is striving to ignore the noise.

“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Despite trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our heads down and working,” Gilligan adds.

The Big Question: Has the showrunner Have a Plan for the Finale of Pluribus?

Given that the writers aren’t being guided by audience theories, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… sort of.

“We've developed some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I suspect we'll be doing that.”

On the other hand, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Alternatively, one could always use the legendary finales?

“My dream is Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV.
