The co-creator of Call of Duty, renowned for co-creating the immensely successful first-person shooter Call of Duty, has died in a vehicle crash in Los Angeles, California aged 55.

The tragic news was confirmed by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, a game studio that he helped create.

The influential industry figure died after his automobile collided and caught fire on a freeway in the Los Angeles area on Sunday, US media outlets report.

"We are facing a heartbreaking loss, and we stand with Vince's family, his loved ones, and everyone impacted by his legacy," an official with Electronic Arts said.
