The Red Devils Set to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Bayern was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the German club’s fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

The new defender, having arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
